Utah Highway Patrol Is Preparing For New 0.05 DUI Law
As I have mentioned before Utah will be the first in the nation to enact a 0.05% BAC DUI law. This new law will be the toughest in the nation and will go into effect on December 30th this year. The Utah Highway Patrol is preparing to enforce this new law.
Hundreds of Tickets Written for E-DUIs
Hundreds of tickets have been written out to distracted drivers for using their electronic devices while driving. 1,677 E-DUI stops were made by law enforcement and 878 tickets were issued to driver’s that were caught using their cell phones while driving.
Utah Maybe the Fist State to Allow Self Driving Cars to Counter 0.05% DUI Law
Utah might be the first state to allow self driving cars. The House Transportation Committee approved a bill that would make these cars legal throughout Utah. Some Utah lawmakers think this will help ease the amount of DUIs people are charged with when the new 0.05% DUI Law goes into effect.
Utah Senator Drinks During the Day Then Presents Bill to Delay New 0.05 DUI Law
On Thursday, February 22nd Senator Jim Dabakis presented Senate Bill 210 to Utah Lawmakers while at 0.05% BAC. The senator had two mimosas before having an aide drive him up to Capitol Hill. He had the drinks and did the presentation to prove how ridiculous the new 0.05% DUI Law really is.

There is a new bill that has been introduced to congress that is trying to delay the new 0.05% BAC Utah DUI Law that goes into effect on New Year’s Eve this year.
More States May Lower Legal BAC Limit to 0.05%
A U.S. commissioned report by the National Academies of Sciences has suggested that the entire country needs to lower the BAC limit for driving from 0.08% to 0.05% just like how Utah has done.
